Day 1: Addis Ababa to Bale Mountains National Park
Depart Addis Ababa early and drive southeast through Adama, Asella, and Dodola. Enjoy highland views, farmland, and rural scenery along the way. Arrive at Dinsho, the headquarters of Bale Mountains National Park, and take a guided nature walk where you may see mountain nyala, Bohor reedbuck, warthogs, and various bird species. Visit the park museum for an introduction to Bale’s ecosystems.
Day 2: Sanetti Plateau and Harenna Forest
After breakfast, drive to the Sanetti Plateau, one of Africa’s highest Afro-alpine landscapes, reaching over 4,000 meters above sea level. Search for the rare Ethiopian wolf, giant mole rats, and endemic birds while enjoying panoramic views. In the afternoon, descend into Harenna Forest, one of Ethiopia’s most important forest ecosystems, and take a short walk among ancient trees, natural springs, and rich biodiversity.
Day 3: Bale Mountains to Sof Omar Cave
Drive south toward Sof Omar Cave, passing rural villages and scenic lowland landscapes. Explore the dramatic cave system carved by the Web River, with impressive chambers, limestone formations, underground passages, and sacred spaces. Learn about the cave’s cultural and spiritual importance to local communities and enjoy time for photography and exploration.
Day 4: Sof Omar to Addis Ababa
After breakfast, begin the return journey to Addis Ababa. Enjoy changing landscapes, lunch, and short breaks along the way. Arrive in Addis Ababa in the late afternoon or evening, marking the end of the tour.
